Yahoo Finance

Peer review blurbs from current coworkers at Yahoo:

“Drew is someone I would clone if I could. He is a great design partner: Thoughtful, timely, available, provides great designs and feedback. He is also very thoughtful and easy to collaborate with.”

“...good design skills are a given, collaborative spirit (Good design partner)and it's nice that he has a thoughtful and pleasant disposition. (Important to me).”

“Drew has a great sense of what information is most important to users and his designs highlight this information prominently. Overall, they reflect great attention to usability and aesthetics. He's very responsive to product and engineering feedback, pushes back when appropriate, and sticks to agreed-upon timelines.”

“...he's got a great sensibility and personal style. Multiplier, because he asks smart questions and pushes conversations/concepts further. Savvy, because he's vastly experienced, thinks widely about the larger problem we're seeking to solve, and is able to break down complex ideas in simple terms.”

“Drew was a pleasure to work with and was instrumental in shipping a high-quality product on a tight timeline.”

I'm a Principal Designer
at Yahoo Finance.

I'm currently working on two large projects:

The first is to improve the core website experience. I've been working with product, UXR, and leadership to redesign key touch-points such as the Quote Summary Page and the Premium Subscription Product (still in development). More recently, I've also been involved in a much larger re-imagining of what Yahoo Finance could be. I'd love to share a lot of the work, but of course, I can't.

At the same time, I've led the effort and align the visual language of Yahoo Finance across devices. This has meant building out a finance-specific design system comprised of three parts:

1. The UI Library in Figma (for designers)
2. Code Repositories (for engineers)
3. Documentation (for designers & engineers)

This July I was promoted to Principal Designer 🎉.

I've also taken on other projects across the Yahoo ecosystem:

Working without linked styles and components is a super inefficient workflow. It also leads to an inconsistent experience for users and can greatly impact their ability to complete tasks.

I built the first UI libraries in both Sketch and Figma cataloging a core of visual resources for 150+ designers across Yahoo. The UI libraries were built along with documentation and building out code repositories with engineers.

From my 2022 Performance ReviewAs Drew continues to evolve as a Product Designer he has demonstrated growth:

Teaches teammates: Drew is the go to for anyone who gets stuck when trying to figure out something in Figma. He’s led the team in a series of sessions on Fuji components within Figma and how to leverage them for product specific design systems.

Creates inspiring designs: When designing, Drew takes that extra step toward the end of a project, zooming out to look for opportunities for some aha moments. An example of this is the hours he spent on the weather icons, accounting for detail and working collaboratively with our animation partner to get the playfulness of the animations just right, without it being overkill.

Strong understanding of UX: Being the main designer on a few projects has allowed Drew to get up close and personal with other disciplines that drive the business. As his tenure on the Finance team continues and he gains more exposure to QSP pages (amain driver for the Finance product), Drew’s experience with various models of driving users through the funnel and working with lots of data will expand.

Flattery is nice.
